New Study Shows What Age Men Around the World Tie the Knot (Wait, Guys Still Want to Get Married?)

Shocker: men still get married. We know, we can’t believe it, either. But even the ancient institution of marriage has undergone some change over the years. A new study by men’s health platform Manual has revealed that the average age of grooms has increased. Back in Shakespeare’s day, 20.6 years was the typical age dudes tied the knot; now, it’s increased over a decade, to 32.3 years old.

Who gets married when varies greatly by country. Guys in India, for example, are the youngest, marrying at an average age of 26 years, while Australian gents hold off until an average age of 39.3 years. American men tend to walk down the aisle when they’re around 29.8 years old, slightly earlier than the global average of 33.4 years old.

But that’s just the Average Joe. What are celebrities up to? Well, it’s all over the map. Some famous dudes, like Macaulay Culkin and Justin Bieber, married young (at 19 and 24, respectively). Others, like George Clooney and Richard Gere, took their sweet time (until 52 and 69, respectively).

Ultimately, there’s no perfect age at which to get hitched – if you bother to say “I do” at all. (One nice thing about staying unattached forever is that you’ll never have to get divorced.) It’s all about when you’re ready to be a husband. Maybe a future study could figure out why the hell anyone would sign up for that role in the first place.
