Meanwhile in North Carolina: Infamous Truck-Eating Bridge Brings Another Truck’s Convertible Dreams to Life (Video)

If you’ve spent any time online in the past decade chances are you’ve seen this deceivingly low North Carolina bridge turn box trucks into convertibles. The bridge, better known as the Can Opener or Roof Ripper, gained popularity online thanks to a live stream. The genius behind 11foot8 started streaming video of the bridge over a decade ago. Since then, it’s captured a wild amount of crashes thanks to having two cameras on the scene.

The infamous bridge in Norfolk Southern–Gregson Street Overpass in Durham, North Carolina recently added 8 inches to prevent this from happening. Of course, it’s simply not enough space to put an end to the internet’s favorite truck-eating pastime. The result? Another truck bites the dust.

In the minute-long video, you’ll notice a yellow truck pass under the bridge, and then shortly after a box truck approaches. At first, things look like they might work out for the truck, but then the horrible sound of the bridge ripping off the top of the truck starts. And the rest is, as they say, history. You know, until the next unwitting driver of a box truck becomes its victim.
