You never know what’s going to resonate with folks on social media, but the popularity of this TikTok video is downright nuts. That’s because its star is none of than a squirrel…who is oddly affectionate with his female caretaker.
Cindy Jenkins of Eustis, Florida, apparently has a special relationship with the common rodent otherwise known as Turkey. In the video, he’s seen staked out by a car. She sweet-talks him as she approaches.
“Are you just waiting for me, Mr. Turkey Butt?” she asks, stroking his fur. He sits still, which is highly unusual for a squirrel. His kind normally flees maniacally at the first sign of a perceived threat.
But not Turkey. At one point, he even reaches his little paw out and the odd couple hold hands. The video racked up 3 million views in a matter of days.
“They’ve all stayed close by, have nests and babies,” Jenkins has said of the ongoing relationship with the animal. “Turkey is sweet and mellow, and although he’s a wild squirrel now he still loves his momma.”
We can’t say we’ll be domesticating squirrels anytime soon (they’re basically rats, ya know) but it sure is nice to see a little interspecies love on the internet.
