They say cats have nine lives and always land on their feet, but it appears one man in New Jersey might have some of those same qualities. A 31-year-old recently fell nine stories, then slammed through the roof of a parked black BMW 330i – and survived.
“I heard a big boom and I didn’t think it was a person at first,” 21-year-old Christina Smith told the New York Post. She witnessed the incident while on her way to a nearby McDonald’s. “The back window of the car just busted out — exploded. Then the guy jumped up and started screaming. His arm was all twisted.”
According to Smith, the man stood up, his right arm dangling at his side, and asked, “What happened?” She informed him that he fell.
“I was thinking, thank God, it probably helped that he had a fluffy jacket on,” she said.
She called 911 – and then proceeded to film and photograph the scene, which she later posted on Facebook.
The man was transported by ambulance to a hospital, where he was later said to be in critical condition. He refused to give police his name.
Reports indicate that the man actually leaped from the ninth floor, and that the fall was no accident.
“He kept saying, ‘Leave me alone, I want to die,’” said Mark Bordeaux, who works in the high-rise building of 26 Journal Square that the man fell from. “He wanted to die. That was his agenda. But God had something else in mind.”
Whatever was at play, this guy got a second chance at life. Here’s hoping he doesn’t waste it.
