Meanwhile in Canada: Meteorite Slams Into Sleeping Woman’s Pillow (Talk About a Rude Awakening)

Talk about a rude awakening! A Canadian woman was recently shaken from her slumber when a meteorite crashed through her house and landed on her pillow.

Her name is Ruth Hamilton and she lives in Golden in southeastern British Columbia. She was deep in dreamland when she heard a loud noise and felt something on her face.

“I just jumped up and turned on the light, I couldn’t figure out what the heck had happened,” she told Victoria News. “I was shaking and scared when it happened, I thought someone had jumped in or it was a gun or something.”

She called 911. The police officer who responded didn’t find any evidence of a crime, but suggested the massive black hunk in her bed might have been construction debris.

“We called the Canyon project to see if they were doing any blasting and they weren’t, but they did say they had seen a bright light in the sky that had exploded and caused some booms,” Hamilton said. That’s when she realized it had to be a meteorite. “It’s almost a relief when we realized it could only have fallen out of the sky.”

Though she easily could’ve died from the blow, the incident turned out to have two silver linings. First, she got to keep the meteorite, and it totally impressed her grandkids. “I’m just totally amazed over the fact that it is a star that came out of the sky. It’s maybe billions of years old,” she said.

Second, she has a new appreciation for life. ”The only other thing I can think of saying is life is precious and it could be gone at any moment even when you think you are safe and secure in your bed,” Hamilton said. “I hope I never, ever take it for granted again.”

While we wouldn’t wish a surprise meteorite attack on anyone, it’s pretty cool that this story had a positive ending – and we bet it’s one Hamilton will tell again and again well into her old age.
