Considering some Floridians like to steal power poles while others wear disguises to rob banks, it should come as no shocker that if there were ever a zombie apocalypse it would likely start in the “Sunshine State.”
Everything that’s absolute bonkers happens in Florida, after all.
Maybe that’s why I laughed out loud once again at the expense of the state when reading that one of its cities released a zombie alert during a recent power outage. For real.
According to the Palm Beach Post, those still amongst the living around 2 am last Sunday in Lake Worth received the following notice on their devices:
“zombie alert for Lake Worth and Terminus,”… “There are now far less than seven-thousand-three-hundred-eighty customers involved due to extreme zombie activity.”
‘Terminus’ is the name of an iconic location in the TV show The Walking Dead.

But don’t worry. All of the local cemeteries are well-intact.
Power was restored minutes later. And it didn’t take long for a city spokesman to clarify the message was “unintended.”
“We are looking into reports that the system mentioned zombies,” said Ben Kerr, the city’s public information officer.
“I want to reiterate that Lake Worth does not have any zombie activity currently and apologize for the system message.”
I’m sure that’s a press release good ol’ Benny never thought he would be writing. ‘DON’T WORRY. THERE ARE NO ZOMBIES! I PROMISE!’

Not everyone is convinced.

This is about as good as the guy in Illinois who crashed his car into an airport terminal because he thought the Land O’ Lincoln was being taken over by zombies.
Josh’s Take
The City of Lake Worth has at least one very disgruntled employee who was tired of taking a barrage of phone calls from senior citizens worried about the power outage and thought it would be funny to see what would happen if they really had something to worry about — zombies.
Two lessons here, kids: don’t do drugs. And don’t pick on senior citizens.
