If you would have told me 20 years ago that a professional clown would be running for Congress in 2018, I would have told you that you were fucking high. But after what happened at the end of 2016, I guess this is the new normal.
According to Yahoo! News, a South Carolina man who was once a professional clown with Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus is hoping to take his clown show to the biggest circus of them all.
Yup, we’re talking about Capitol Hill.
Steve Lough is running against four others in South Carolina’s Democratic primary and hoping to gain that party’s nomination in a bid to unseat Republican Ralph Norman in the state’s 5th congressional district.
According to his official website ClownForCongress.com, Lough not only graduated from Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Clown College but also Dartmouth College. It wouldn’t be the first time that he’s has dabbled in politics, as he was a volunteer for both Barack Obama and Bernie Sanders in their bids for the White House.

Just what grinds clowns’ gears these days? You guessed it – health care reform and stricter gun laws. Who knows, if he makes it all the way to Washington, D.C., maybe the only guns Americans will be able to get their hands on will be the ones that just shoot out pieces of cloth that say “BANG!” on them.
Oh, I hope he wins.
