Talk about taking everything but the kitchen sink.
You should all know by now that your favorite childhood toy store Toys “R” Us is closing house for good and essentially taking our childhood with them and burying deep where we could never find it again. But it sounds like some of the store’s employees are doing everything they can to squeeze out every remaining dollar from the iconic toy store. Well, only one employee really.
According to the NY Post, a 25-year-old man named Obaid Sheikh was arrested after it was discovered that he stole almost 3,000 toys from a Virginia Toys “R” us before hopping on eBay and selling them for about $123,000. And this was before he had known the toy store was going out of business as Sheikh had been stealing toys for the four years he worked at the store.

An asset protection manager for Toys “R” Us launched an investigation in October 2017 after a string of thefts at the store. He later found a seller’s account on eBay with the username “YoungHov289” that had been selling new toys, some of which were labeled as Toys “R” Us exclusives.
The asset protection manager linked the account to Sheikh, who admitted stealing the toys via the store’s back door before putting them in the trunk of his car. A review of company records later found that Sheikh had spent only $4.24 in store purchases.
After his arrest in late February, Sheikh admitted to a detective from the Fairfax County Police Department that he concocted the scheme because he felt mistreated at the store. Sheikh used the proceeds in part to pay for college-related expenses, he said.

This angry (now ex) employee will be charged with embezzlement, selling stolen property and conducting an unlawful financial transaction. And now for the real question: just how many Tickle Me Elmo’s did he sell? People still go crazy for those, right? Regardless, I’m not sure Geoffrey the Giraffe is very happy.
