Do you want to live in a world where smoking monkeys are prohibited? More than one million people who recently signed a petition to shut down an Indonesian zoo apparently do.
According to ABC News, those million-plus people without a zest for life were outraged after a video went viral that showed a Bandung Zoo visitor throw a lit cigarette into an orangutan’s enclosure. A 22-year-old Bornean named Odon then picked up the cigarette and took a few puffs.
That’s the part that’s getting everybody’s panties in a bunch.
Growing outrage after a zoo visitor tossed a lit cigarette into an orangutan enclosure, prompting the ape to pick it up and smoke it. More than 1M people signed a petition to shut down the zoo after the incident. The zoo says it regrets that it happened. https://t.co/nxWlMGDFg5 pic.twitter.com/2yBvbZeux8

Just like the majority of my uncles, Odon seemed to be more than OK with burning a heater, but like many institutions across the world these days, the zoo was bullied into issuing an apology, saying they “regretted” what happened without first asking the monkey if he actually enjoyed the cigarette.
It’s just another reminder of the world we live in these days, one in which millions of people fret about a monkey taking a few puffs off a cigarette while ignoring the fact that 1,500 human children started smoking in the amount of time it took to write this post.
