Florida Couple Fake Home Invasion By Shooting Themselves

Quite the scheme to get some cash.

Let’s all talk about 35-year-old Doug Teixeira and his 36-year-old wife Lindsey Pelton. We need to talk about them because this couple actually shot themselves in order to fake a home invasion. It all kicked off when the couple told police that two men had broke into their Deltona home, but obviously police noticed something was off when they smelled bleach and found dried blood in the home and garage.

“If this incident just occurred and they called police right away, why would you have dried blood and why do we have bleach all over the house,” Sheriff Mike Chitwood told the News-Journal.

“Several inconsistencies” were found in the couple’s story, according to the sheriff’s office, which noted that the crime scene appeared to be staged. Pelton and Teixeira said they were in the shower when the intruders entered the house, but the shower and bath mat were dry. Additionally, cops found no signs of forced entry or tire-spin marks outside.

Surveillance footage revealed no signs of vehicles stopping near the house, other than a school bus.

To make their scheme more convincing, authorities say Pelton shot herself in the forearm and Teixeira wounded himself in the calf. Pelton’s shot caused a fractured bone.

That’s right, kids, they shot themselves. Why? According to Chitwood it was to “sue the homeowner and collect money.”

It obviously didn’t work because both were charged with providing false information to law enforcement, and Teixeira was charged with an additional count of tampering with evidence.
