An All-Female ‘Lord of the Flies’ Reboot Was Announced And Twitter Is Roasting The Idea

Everyone and their mom has read the classic 1954 novel by William Golding, Lord of the Flies. And that’s because your English teacher probably forced you to read it. But even if you haven’t read it you’ve probably see the film adaptations — one released in 1963 and the other in 1990. It’s pretty much about a bunch of British boys who have to fend for themselves when they become stranded on an island. But since Hollywood is running out of ideas and rebooting everything these days this will be getting a reboot. And this time around it’s going to be all gals.

Yesterday Warner Bros. announced that they are hoping to release an all-female version of the story. And here’s the even bigger kicker: two guys, Scott McGehee and David Siegel will be writing it and directing it. Yep. Here’s what Siegel had to say about the project to Deadline.

“We want to do a very faithful but contemporized adaptation of the book, but our idea was to do it with all girls rather than boys. It is a timeless story that is especially relevant today, with the interpersonal conflicts and bullying, and the idea of children forming a society and replicating the behavior they saw in grownups before they were marooned.”

Well let’s just say that Twitter is not on board at all.

Well, this film should go over well.
