Not today, death. Not today.
We all need to talk about Doug Bergeson. And why do we need to talk about him? Well because he is still alive today even after shooting himself in the heart with a high-powered nail gun. It all occurred when the 52-year-old was framingĀ in a fireplace at home heās building.
āI looked down [and] I couldnāt see anything,ā Bergeson said.
It was not until Bergeson lifted his shirt that he saw the 3.5-inch nail wasĀ embedded in his chest. Roughly an inch of the nail was left sticking out.
āI could see the nail moving with my heartbeat,ā he told the AP. āIt was kind of twitching with every heartbeat.ā Bergeson drove himself to a nearby medical center. Doctors there had him rushed to Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay, where he underwent open-heart surgery.
Dr. Alexander Roitstein, the cardiothoracic surgeon who performed Bergesonās surgery, said the nail was within an eighth of an inch from a major artery.
āHad he been leaning just so or had his heart been in a different part of the beating cycle we couldāve had a very different situation on our hands,ā Roitstein toldĀ The Daily Mail.
Bergeson only spent two days at the hospital and will be returning to his job soon. NowĀ thatās a manās man. Then again, it was only a nail to his chest and not screws in his penis like what happened to this poor dude.
