Earlier this year a high school Spanish teacher named Ekatherine Pappas became a fugitive when she headed to Bogota, Columbia, after it was discoverd that she bailed on work and made a 16-year-old kid skip his classes in order to have sex with him and film it.
The 25-year-old Baltimore teacher who taught at Franklin High School fled to Columbia on the same day police issued a warrant for her arrest — but she was eventually arrested when she returned a week later. Upon her arrest, Pappas admitted to having sex with the student and videotaping at least one of the encounters.

According to court documents, the victim told detectives his Spanish teacher asked him to cut class on two separate occasions, on December 21 and 22, and drove him to his house for the purpose of having sex with her. One of their sex sessions was recorded on video.
Pappas, a graduate of Loyola University, had been teaching at Franklin High for just a month when she became involved with the 16-year-old boy, according to prosecutors.
The boy’s father wrote in a victim impact statement submitted to the court that his son and their entire family have been devastated by this case.
“I cannot begin to explain the terror of being notified that my son had been sexually abused and it was on videotape that had been circulated throughout the school for others to see,” the victim’s father said in a statement to the court, adding that his son had not returned to school afterward.
Pappas pleaded guilty three counts of misdemeanor fourth-degree sex offense and was sentenced to three years in jail, but all but a year and a day was recently suspended by a judge. Once she is released from prison, Pappas will spend five years on enhanced probation. Pappas will also have to register as a sex offender for 15 years.
