Times are financially rough out there for everyone. Well, everyone except adorable dogs, of course. When you can turn on the charm like the lovable Negão, you can pretty much waltz into any establishment and find work. Then again, there’s a little more to the story than that.
Two years ago, after being abandoned by his previous owners at the construction site of a soon-to-be Shell gas station in Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil, Negão was too afraid to wander far from the grounds. Fortunately for him (and eventually everyone who would come to visit said gas station), the owner of the property Sabrina Plannerer and her partner did the right thing and made him a part of their family. As she put it, “We adopted him immediately and got him all the care animals need. We took him to the vet to get vaccinated and de-wormed. We bought him food, a dog house, and a leash to take him on walks.”
But that aspect alone isn’t nearly enough to warrant it as weird news, right? So what’s the catch? Well, Planner and her partner didn’t simply adopt the lost pup. After all, as the saying goes, “Big dog’s gotta eat.” What better way for Negão to put food on the table than to give him a job at the gas station as a greeter on top of everything else?
“Negão waits for people to arrive, and then goes up to say hello, winning them over with his charms,” Plannerer continued. “Customers love him. Some people even bring him toys.” You’d have to be a monster not to melt when you see that face.
Obviously, being a full-timer means getting treated as such. Hence, Negão’s official uniform and worker’s ID badge. He’s such a model employee, in fact, that he chooses to reside at the station where he was found rather that at home with Plannerer. Such gumption is surely the reason why he went ahead and took on a second job as a poster dog for charity group FERA, whose goal is to pair strays with businesses in the event that they can’t find stable homes for them to live.
