Man Wants ‘Murder’ Tattoo Removed Before Murder Trial

Let’s be honest. Getting the word “MURDER” tattooed across the front of your neck is never a good idea, but it can be damning when you’re about to go on trial for first-degree murder.

And according to the Great Bend Tribune, that’s why Jeffrey Chapman is looking to have his tattoo covered or removed from his throat.

The 32-year-old Kansas man is on trial for the November 2011 murder of Damian Galyardt, whose body was found in a roadside ditch by hunters.

Chapman’s attorney told the court his client has gone as far as securing a licensed tattoo artist who is willing to come to the jail to do the job, but Kansas law prohibits the artist from practicing anywhere except a licensed tattoo facility. And unfortunately for Chapman, the sheriff refuses to transport him to any of those facilities.

Chapman’s lawyer also said his client’s tattoo is “irrelevant to the State’s case and extremely prejudicial.” I mean, yeah. Isn’t the whole point of getting a “MURDER” tattoo to scare people into thinking you will kill them?

Surprisingly, prosecutors have not objected to the defense’s requests, which pretty much means they have an air-tight case against him anyway.
