In an epic battle that rivals David and Goliath, the township of West Orange in New Jersey has gone after resident Jake Freivald for owning and running his tiny, little website westorange.info.
The township had its attorney, Richard D. Trenk, send a letter claiming that Freivald’s use of the West Orange name is likely to cause confusion and possibly deceive the public. A cease and desist letter was sent to Freivald claiming that he may be in violation of the Townships federally protected rights.
So, Freivald obeyed the formal letter and shut his website down, right? Wrong. The stone that he slung at this giant came in the form of an awesome lawyer that he hired named Stephen B. Kaplitt.
