Marvel Studios sure seems proud of Guardians of the Galaxy, given the way they’re dumping as much footage as possible on the public ahead of time. This new extended trailer offers the best look at James Gunn’s wise-ass space opera yet, with more scenes, more plot and more dialogue than ever. Then again maybe this is Marvel’s damage control (as in actual damage control, not the fictional organization from the comics), showing mainstream audiences just how awesome Guardians of the Galaxy will be even though it’s full of characters that are relatively obscure to people who don’t actually read any comic books.

Of course, fans of the comics will be encouraged by this new extended trailer too, since it looks like James Gunn didn’t screw it up. In fact, it looks more and more like he may – just may – have knocked it out of the park. We’ll find out for sure when Guardians of the Galaxy opens in theaters on August 1, 2014.
