Sometimes, a movie from go from flop to potential sequel in literally a day.
Case in point — Pacific Rim set a record the first day it opened in China, bringing in $9 million. Up to that point, Guillermo del Toro’s film had only taken in $84 million in the rest of the world three weeks after opening.
But Crave’s MovieWeb reported Thursday that the Chinese opening now has Warner Bros. re-considering a Pacific Rim sequel. As of now, Pacific Rim has earned $140 million in 52 territories, with a worldwide gross of $224 million, from a budget estimated between $180 million and $220 million.
Guess we’ll see what happens in the near future.
