From the very opening scene of the Game of Thrones TV series, the White Walkers were established as the major threat on the show. The war for the seven kingdoms of Westeros is meaningless as long as there’s an undead army following the White Walkers. As far as we know, the White Walkers haven’t yet breached the Wall. But give them time. Winter isn’t just coming, it’s here!
Ahead of the sixth season of Game of Thrones, HBO has released a new video that offers a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to make the series’ signature enemies, from the early concept stages, to mold creation, prosthetics, and crazy long hours in the make up chair. Becoming a White Walker isn’t for the faint of heart, but it looks like an amazing experience.

The video also touches upon last year’s iconic White Walker attack beyond the Wall, which saw both Wildlings and men of the Night’s Watch fail to stop their advance. Only Jon Snow caught the attention of the Night’s King with his Valyrian steel sword that wouldn’t shatter. Such a shame that he’s dead…for now. But really, does anyone think that Jon Snow isn’t coming back at some point?!
Game of Thrones season 6 will begin on Sunday, April 24 on HBO.
