It’s quite shocking that we haven’t played an actually decent official Attack on Titan game yet. The closest we’ve come to a game replicating the action of the hugely popular anime series is independent developer Feng Lee’s fan-made game, with the sole licensed console game being the 3DS’ terrible Attack on Titan: Humanity in Chains. Koei Tecmo is currently working on a PS4 game that looks to be an improvement, but without having seen much gameplay footage from it, we remain skeptical until it’s released later this year. However, there is one individual who is striving to make a faithful adaptation of the series, with indie developer Guiden doing a great job thus far of mimicking the look and frenetic, violent action in his fan-made game.
While Guiden’s Attack on Titan game runs the risk of being slapped with a copyright infringement case given how Attack on Titan PS4’s release is just around the corner, I hope that he’s allowed to continue working on his project because, after playing the short demo, it’s shaping up very nicely. While the vast majority of its textures haven’t been added in yet, player-character Eren looks exactly like he does in the anime, and although the Titans aren’t available to fight in the demo, screenshots indicate that they’re a very close recreation of the show’s gigantic monsters, too.
The PC demo for the game, which you can download right here, only includes a few training levels, though it also reveals that there will be a multiplayer mode ‘Save the Humanity’ which will tasks players with taking on Titans alongside other players.
