NBC has found a writer for its upcoming reboot of Xena: Warrior Princess.
According to Variety, former Lost writer and supervising producer, Javier Grillo-Marxuach has been signed to executive produce and write the Xena revival, which is still currently in development.
Grillo-Marxuach’s most recent TV stints include The 100 and Helix, in addition to his runs on Charmed, Jake 2.0, and The Chronicle. Grillo-Marxuach also created The Middleman for ABC Family, the subversively funny sci-fi television show based on Grillo-Marxuach’s Middleman comic book series.

There isn’t much currently known about the Xena reboot except that original Xena, Lucy Lawless has no involvement in it at this time. Lawless’ husband and Xena co-creator Rob Tapert is listed as an executive producer on the new Xena with Sam Raimi, the other co-creator. However, it’s unclear if either Tapert or Raimi will take an active role in the new series.
Lawless originated the role of Xena on Hercules: The Legendary Journeys before she was given her own series in 1995. Xena: Warrior Princess went on to become one of the most popular syndicated action series over the course of six seasons.
NBC’s Xena reboot is likely to be in consideration for a spot on the network’s 2016 Fall TV schedule. But it doesn’t have a pilot order yet.
