Jodie Whittaker has officially been revealed as the 13th Doctor, making her the first female to take over the reins of Doctor Who in the process. Though many fans have been asking for a woman to take on Doctor Who for quite some time now, there have inevitably been those who believe that a woman shouldn’t take on the role for reasons that are definitely, 100% not sexist. Nope, not at all.
The announcement of the Broadchurch actress as the new Doctor therefore caused quite a stir, with fans and opinionated outsiders alike chiming in on exactly how Whittaker being named the 13th Doctor would “ruin” the show. Take a look at the big reveal below:

Though it’s impossible to adequately assess just how well Whittaker will perform in the role, many have decided to just go ahead and do that anyway, coming to the conclusion that the Doctor being a woman will therefore automatically make the series terrible. Those pesky women, coming over here, stealing men’s TV roles!
There was plenty of positivity going around on social media after the big reveal, though it was peppered with hundreds of outraged comments from those who were stunned that the BBC were forcing “political correctness” into the show by including a female Doctor. Despite there being literally no reason why the Doctor can’t be a woman, many decided to take to Twitter and express why it shouldn’t happen anyway:
Well capaldi's series was terrible and this is just political correctness, a woman just doesnt fit this role its not the same.

However, there were also many who came out in support of Jodie Whittaker being given the role, and a woman taking over the role of the Doctor in general:
To misogynists moaning about #Doctor13: You're not the target audience. It's aimed at children w/ grown-up minds, not the other way around.

Peter Capaldi, the current Doctor, is set to appear as the Time Lord for the final time on December 25, 2017. There’s no word yet on when series 11 will air, and when we’ll get to see Jodie Whittaker make history in the process.
