In Marvel’s comic book universe, The Defenders were an entirely different group than the one coming to Netflix. But apparently someone at Marvel thought that The Defenders sounded better than Heroes for Hire when it comes to Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. Regardless, the long awaited team up miniseries is right around the corner, and we finally know when it will arrive.
Netflix and Marvel have released a teaser clip for The Defenders that reveals the launch date of the eight-episode series is August 18. It’s a clever bit that features all four heroes in security footage from an elevator. Note that Daredevil is mostly out of costume, but wearing a makeshift mask. This suggests that the team up was impromptu, and they may have made some new enemies along the way.

So far, the story details for the miniseries have been left out of the announcements. But we do know that Sigourney Weaver is playing Alexandra, the leading villain of the miniseries. It’s also likely that Elodie Yung’s Elektra may be one of the main villains as well, since she was last seen being resurrected by the ninja death cult known as the Hand.
Many of the supporting characters from Marvel’s Netflix series will return for The Defenders, including Rosario Dawson as Clare Temple, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing, Scott Glenn as Stick, Rachel Taylor as Trish Walker, Eka Darville as Malcolm Ducasse, Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth, and Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page.
