NYIAS 2015: McLaren Kicks in NYC Door with New 570S Coupe

McLaren must like New York as they’ve unveiled new, world-thrilling supercars at the city auto show two years in a row. Last year, it was the 650S. This time around, we’re looking at the new 570S coupe.

The McLaren 570S ruled the buzz at NYIAS 2015 the way the new Ford GT drove journalists nuts at NAIAS 2015 in Detroit. A supercar must possess certain faculties, and this car will honor the tradition by serving up a mid-mounted engine, rear-wheel drive and twin-turbo V8 engine producing 570 PS – or the equivalent of 562 horsepower.

In addition, the 570S will include Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tires, standard-fit carbon ceramic brakes and a carbon fiber body design. To get the buyer from home to track and back, the car has a newly developed suspension system with Normal, Sport and Track performance settings.

It’ll be brutally fast, and it’s a guarantee it’ll handle beautifully, But, there’s one number that really stands out on the 570S state sheet. This is a car that will certainly run north of 200 mph. However, due to that smaller, turbo-charged engine and carbon fiber body, McLaren reports the car tests out around 25 mpg on highway conditions. There are some supercars that will drain a tank at a rate south of 15 mpg even in the best driving conditions. So, a score in the 25 range is a rate achievement.

When the car arrives for sale in the coming months, we’ll be looking at a six figure number. It’ll be interesting to see if the 570S appeals to more eco-minded halo car drivers.
