We’re still more than a month away from the big 2017 New York International Auto Show where automakers will make countless announcements and reveals. Range Rover got a lead on all of that by announcing its Range Rover Velar will be on the scene in Manhattan.

New to the Range Rover family, the Velar fits in between the Range Rover Evoque and the Range Rover Sport. According to Range Rover HQ, the Velar will offer new consumer technologies and use sustainable materials for modern consumer sensibilities.
The origin of the Velar name harkens back to the first Range Rover prototypes in the 1960s. When engineers wanted to hide the identity of the 26 pre-production Range Rover vehicles, they chose the name Velar (from the Latin ‘velare’ meaning to veil or cover).
Full details of the Range Rover Velar will arrive on March 1, 2017. But, Americans will get their first in-person look at the vehicle at NYIAS 2017.
