Top 8 Stereotypes About Canadians That Are True

We Canadians are known for a lot of things, but how many of them are accurate? Well, let’s face it: a lot! We’re soooorry, but Canucks do have an obsession with certain very Canadian facets of life. Here are the top 10 stereotypes about Canadians that are true.

We love hockey.

The modern-day sport of ice hockey was developed in Canada, most notably in Montreal, where the first indoor hockey game was played on March 3, 1875. We take great pride in our beloved sport, and we’re not ashamed to paint our faces (or chests) and don our favourite team jersey with pride.

We love snow.

If you hate the snow, you shouldn’t live in Canada. Period. The annual average snowfall in most Canadian cities is 150+ centimetres, and we make the most of it, with winter festivals and carnivals, outdoor winter sports, and more.

We say “eh” a lot.

There’s worse things we could be known for saying… just sayin’…

We eat back bacon and maple syrup.

Yes we do! And you wish your country was known for these delectable treats too!

We are well-mannered and polite.

Is this really a stereotype that we’d want to deny? It’s great that Canadians are known the world over for their impeccable manners. I’m sorry, but it’s true…

It’s wintertime for most of the year.

Yes, we have summer and spring, but they’re pretty short-lived. Cooler temps definitely prevail in the Great White North, but how else would we play shinny?

We drink a lot of beer.

HICCUP! Yep, we love our beer. Our beer, not that watered down junk they drink south of the border.

We say “a-boot,” not “about.”

So what’s this stereotype a-boot? Oops… sorry. Ok, this one is true.
