Even superheroes have to start somewhere, and so do the actors who play them as Captain America: Civil War star Chris Evans proved recently after posting the cover letter he sent in for his first internship to Twitter recently.
Written when the actor was only 17 years old, Evans sent the letter out to dozens of casting directors at the start of his career. Unearthed by Evans’ father, the actor was still in junior high school when he decided it was time to look for opportunities to break into the world of New York theater.
Describing himself as a “hardworking individual” with “an intense passion for theatre” interested in learning “the business side of theatre” after being “actively involved” for seven years, once can just see a pimply future Captain America typing this up on Windows 95 and hoping to bluff his way into a career treading the boards.
Turns out the resume, cover letter, and headshot – that Evans called “BEYOND embarrassing” and sadly refused to tweet – worked out for him in the end too, the actor revealing he landed an interview shortly after sending out the letter. Although in his words it was down to “#dumbluck”.
And the resume/headshot I sent along with it is BEYOND humiliating. Truly comical. Luckily it did somehow lead to an internship. #dumbluck
