Rhys Darby Confirms ‘What We Do In The Shadows’ Follow-Up

2014 cult mockumentary What We Do In The Shadows was an unmitigated success for it’s New Zealand-based production team.

The movie follows the lives of a family of vampires, many of whom are hundreds of years old – and their struggles to fit in with modern culture.

Rhys Darby, who stars in the film as a werewolf named Anton, recently confirmed to theMusic that he had been in talks with co- director Jermaine Clement about a sequel which may document the lives of the werewolf pack.

“I’ve spoken with Jemaine and he’s definitely keen to get it made,” said Darby. “They had so much fun with the vamp one. And just the idea of a really nerdy bunch of werewolves hanging out, and following them in their daily lives – and their problems with their wives and partners – and [seeing] how they get through life working in IT during the day and then strapping themselves to trees at night so they don’t kill people is very funny.

“They’ve got the title [We’re Wolves] and now it’s just about finding the time to make it. So, you know, I’m definitely gonna be available for that. I’ve gotta be in the wolf pack.”

Directed by Taika Waititi – who was recently, and somewhat surprisingly unveiled as the directed behind Marvel’s next Thor film – and Flight Of The Concords’ Jermaine Clement, the film has reached critical acclaim – currently sitting at 96% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Sadly though the chances of Darby making an appearance in the next Thor installment appear slim. “I doubt it, “That’s one thing that I think he has less control over is a huge studio behemoth beast like that. Um, I wouldn’t expect to. Maybe if I could play the hammer?  I don’t think I’ll be expecting a call for that one.”

Waititi’s latest film Hunt For The Wilderpeople is out now.
