Jenny Finch Is About To Become First Female Pro Baseball Manager In History!

Jennie Finch, the most famous softball athlete of our lifetime, will now make history in baseball.

The collegiate and Olympic star will become the first woman to manage a professional baseball team when she serves as guest manager for the independent Bridgeport Bluefish Sunday.

“We are really excited to have Jennie come out and manage the team,” says Bluefish GM Jamie Toole in a statement. “She is an incredible athlete and a wonderful person, and we hope our fans will enjoy seeing her in a Bluefish uniform for the day.”

Is this just another promotion for a ~~struggling~~ (likely struggling) minor league baseball team? Yes.

I’ve never even heard of a “guest manager.” However, I wouldn’t be writing about it if I didn’t think it was slightly cool.

Two years ago Pete Rose served as guest manager of the Bluefish.

Finch played for the University of Arizona from 1999-2002, leading the Cats to a national title in 2001. She also won a gold medal in the 2004 Olympics and a silver medal in 2008.
