Roberto Martinez has been sacked as manager of Everton after a terrible season for the club, with the Toffees set to finish the season with their lowest number of points since 1981.
Everton’s previous two games saw them beaten 3-1 by champions Leicester on Saturday and roundly defeated 3-0 by Sunderland on Wednesday. Currently residing in 12th place, this follows the club’s 2014/15 Premier League season in which they finished 11th.
There has been vocal support against Martinez’s continued management of the club, with many fans having called for his replacement throughout the season. According to The Guardian, the club will officially announce that they have sacked the manager after compensation terms have been agreed with him.
Everton have won only one of their past 10 matches, with them also having acquired only five home league wins throughout the entirety of the season. They’ve also lost two of their domestic semi-finals this year. Though he could potentially remain with the club until the end of the season as no official confirmation has been given, the BBC reports that the decision will be announced “imminently”, though the Spaniard is still scheduled to appear at the club’s end-of-year awards dinner.
Everton’s previous season saw them finishing lower down the table than they had in nine years, with this current season shaping up to be even more of a disappointment for the club.
