There are spoilers ahead from last nightâs episode of Game of Thrones! Youâve been warned!
Game of Thrones jumped back in time for an extended flashback this week, as we finally met young Ned Stark (Robert Aramayo) and the legendary warrior, Ser Arthur Dayne (Luke Roberts). While the sword fight between Ned and Dayne had interesting implications, fans really wanted to see what was happening in the Tower of Joy, but we were denied! For this week, at least.
In HBOâs latest âInside the Episodeâ video, Game of Thrones showrunner Dan Weiss talks about the apparent discrepancy about Nedâs win over Dayne and the fact that this history was predicated on a lie. Ned didnât beat the best swordsman in the land, and he very nearly died because of it!Â
Weiss also goes into Daenerysâ unfortunate return to the Dothraki, and her sudden downgrade in status. The mother of dragons and the Queen of Meereen doesnât have any influence among her fellow widows. And for the first time in a long time, Daenerys is helpless again.

Finally, Weiss and his co-showrunner, David Benioff talk about the return of Jon Snow and how his death changed him. One of the more interesting reveals of the video is that Jonâs resurrection originally had more dialogue, but the duo decided to run most of the scene in relative silence and let the miracle speak for itself.
Game of Thrones season 6 continues this Sunday, May 15.
