The new Les Twins dance clip for their collaboration with rapper Red Café is a mix of the sublime and the banal. Larry and Laurent collaborated with American rapper Red Café for the track “No Fakes,” whose cliché-ridden music video dropped back in February. That clip, despite showcasing Larry’s fluidly syncopated moves, was a typically uninspired rap video perfectly suited to weak lyrics about fake niggas and fake bitches. The new clip is the brothers in performance, and while they do lip-sync the words, the real star – as always – is the way they weave percussive liquid moves into something you can’t turn away from. They’re reportedly working on music of their own, and their rapped cameos on the Red Café tune do not inspire confidence. It’s baffling and disappointing that they can be so fresh and original on the floor, and so insipid in the recording booth. Here’s hoping that when they’re the main music artist, and not merely the guest, they bring the same innovation to their music that they do to their dancing. Meanwhile, it’s all about the moves.
