Crave is proud to premiere Israeli artist Ninet Tayeb’s new video, “Superstar,” from her upcoming new album, to be released later in 2016.
“Superstar” follows the premiere of her more textured “Child,” late last year which prompted coverage from Diffuser and Paste Magazine, among others. Both tracks are from Ninet’s fifth full length, a collaboration with producer Joseph E. Shine. She’s been pulling double duty in her creative drive, also singing in Porcupine Tree leading man StevenWilson’s band.
In the gripping video for “Superstar,” Ninet plays something of a conductor of pursuit, as a woman turns the tables on a man, chasing him through city streets and eventually into an office building. Let’s hope you’re not betting on a happy ending to this one, as soon Ninet becomes more voodoo puppeteer than street performer, commanding the violence from below.
Ninet caught our attention when she sang “Shir La’Shalom” last year in Tel Aviv, at a peace rally and memorial event commemorating the 20th anniversary of former Israeli prime minister Yitzhak Rabin’s murder. Rabin sang the same song at a peace rally 20 years prior in the same spot, and had kept the lyric sheet in his breast pocket. When he was assassinated, one of the bullets pierced the lyric sheet. The performance was understandably powerful.
Ninet most recently played two packed out NYC shows before heading cross country and down to Austin for SXSW, where she rocked the Brooklyn Vegan showcase among others.
Keep up with Ninet at her official site, as well as on Facebook.
