Tickets for Premier League matches will be capped at £30 for away fans, the football league has stated.
The change, which will be introduced next season and will continue for three seasons, has been agreed upon by all 20 of the English league’s top-tier clubs, in response to a growing backlash from football fans against increased ticket prices.
A statement from the Premier League regarding the price cap reads:
“Premier League Clubs have unanimously agreed that for the next three seasons away fans will be able to attend Premier League matches and pay no more than £30 for each of their tickets.
Clubs know that away fans have a unique status. They are essential for match atmosphere and stimulate the response from home fans that distinguishes Barclays Premier League matches from those of other leagues.”
Given that away supporters also have travelling costs to pay, it’s a welcome move on behalf of the Premier League to cap ticket prices so that they do not grow as out of hand as the prices home fans are required to pay. Hopefully this is indicative of a move towards a more fan-friendly approach from the powers that be in the footballing world.
