Later this year, AMC is bringing Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s classic comic book series, Preacher to television. Preacher is widely considered to be one of the most controversial comics of all time, and it should be interesting to see if AMC presents it unfiltered and uncensored.
Basically, it’s about a small town preacher named Jesse Custer, who becomes imbued with the word of God. Once that happens, nearly everyone in creation is forced to obey Jesse’s direct commands…and that makes him a target for the forces of Heaven, Hell, and even the mere mortals on Earth.
AMC has released three new photos of the cast in costume as the leading characters of the series.
Jesse Custer
Dominic Cooper is starring in Preacher as Jesse, and the show will apparently focus on Jesse’s time as a preacher before he goes on a roadtrip to literally find God. Even before he was empowered, Jesse was not a man to be crossed. Now, he’s even more formidable…
Tulip
Former Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. villainess Ruth Negga is playing the female lead of Preacher, Tulip. She’s Jesse’s ex-girlfriend, and in the comics she was also an assassin.
Cassidy
AMC’s calling Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) an “Irish drifter.” It’s almost as if AMC is trying to hide the fact that Cassidy is a vampire. And a bit of a mean drunk… Let’s just say that Cassidy is a lot older than he looks.
