At long last, HBO has debuted the first official trailer for Game of Thrones season 6. And Jon Snow (Kit Harington) is still quite dead. While many fans have speculated that Melisandre (Carice van Houten) will resurrect Jon, the new trailer features her confession to Ser Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham) that her vision of Stannis’ victory in the fire was a lie! But that won’t stop Melisandre from dropping her robes in the name of her religious crusade.
More alarmingly, the return of Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) finds him face-to-face with the Night’s King, the enigmatic leader of the White Walkers! Meanwhile in Essos, Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen) finds the clues left behind by Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) as she endures captivity at the hands of a Dothraki horde.
Back in the North, Roose (Michael McElhatton) and Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) appear to realize that their control is slipping now that Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) has escaped. And in King’s Landing, the Lannisters are under siege by the High Sparrow (Jonathan Pryce) and his well armed fanatical followers. Fortunately, Ceresi (Lena Headey) has a Mountain on her side, as the seemingly resurrected Ser Gregor Clegane (Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson) has a vast appetite for violence.
Game of Thrones season 6 will return for 10 new episodes beginning on Sunday, April 24. It’s widely expected that the series will then be renewed for at least two more seasons.
