Steven Soderbergh Brings Western Miniseries Godless To Netflix

Steven Soderbergh supposedly retired from films years ago, but his television adventures have no end in sight. In fact, Soderbergh has just locked up his next series project with Netflix.

According to Variety, Soderbergh and screenwriter Scott Frank (The Wolverine) are producing Godless, a new western miniseries for Netflix. Soderbergh and Frank previously collaborated on Out of Sight in 1998. But this time, Frank is taking the primary role of director and writer, while both Frank and Soderbergh will be the executive producers.

There are currently no details about the story of Godless or how many episodes it will run, but it is supposedly set in the 1880s and it will be filmed in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Soderbergh has had a very busy slate on television, coming off two seasons of Cinemax’s The Knick. He has three other series projects in the works, including Mosaic at HBO, Red Oaks at Amazon Studios, and The Girlfriend Experience at Starz. There’s even talk that Soderbergh’s cinematic “retirement” won’t last much longer, as he’s reportedly set to direct Channing Tatum in a heist movie called Lucky Logan.

As for Netflix, Godless marks the latest high profile miniseries pickup for the streaming service, following the announced Gilmore Girls revival miniseries.
