An extremely rare Beatles record dubbed the “Holy Grail” is set to be auctioned next month after it was discovered in the loft of a former Gerry and the Pacemakers band member.
Les Maguire, the 74-year-old former keyboardist for The Beatles’ fellow Liverpudlian band, found the 1962 10-inch record in his home after reportedly forgetting about it for over 50 years. The record is said to have been instrumental in the band’s success, with it having been used to convince their future producer George Martin to give them a recording contract with EMI. The record is signed by The Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein, who gave it to Maguire in 1963.
Though there are only rough estimates in regards to the amount the record will fetch at auction, it is expected to pull in upwards of £10,000, though given its rarity it’s notably difficult to ascertain just how much it will sell for. Maguire said that the record is “no good” to him, so he has given it to his granddaughter to sell as she “is hoping to buy a house after passing her accountancy exams”, according to the BBC. “I hope it goes for a good price”, Maguire added.
The record contains the tracks ‘Till There Was You’ and ‘Hello Little Girl’, with it having been made at the HMV store in Oxford Street, London. Its auction will take place at Omega Auctions in Warrington on March 22nd.
