Bill Shorten Calls Cory Bernardi A Homophobe To His Face, On Live TV

In case the Australian political sphere was just too darn dignified for you recently, anti-Safe Schools program campaigning Liberal Senator Cory Bernardi has just set a new low for un-sportsman like behaviour, getting called out by Opposition leader Bill Shorten in the process.

Passing Bill Shorten as he was holding a press conference addressing Bernardi and his anti-Safe Schools coalition in front of Parliament House, Bernardi decided that this was the perfect time to interject with an insult.

As Shorten was in the middle of a saying “we see this ridiculous, absurd obsession by the right wing of the Liberal Party about Safe Schools” Bernardi swept past quipping “That’d be me.”

He wasn’t done there, though, adding that, “At least I’m honest, Bill. You’re a fraud.”

Shorten however was uncharacteristically sharp on the comeback with: “at least I’m not a homophobe.”

About bloody time Bill. And while you may not quite fill the shoes of Labor Party comeback king Paul Keating, it’s inspiring to see someone take the wind out of Bernardi’s hate filled sails.
