The Cleveland Cavs defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder Sunday night but did it mostly without their star point guard Kyrie Irving.
Irving played just nine minutes before leaving the game permanently. The reason?
“Our team said I was out with flu-like symptoms,” Irving said after the Cavs’ 96-88 loss to the Detroit Pistons on Monday. “It was honestly from the bed bugs from the frickin’ Hilton that we stayed at.”
Another revelation? The hotel Irving and the Cavs stayed in supposedly has a serious haunting.
The team stayed at the Skirvin Hilton, a newly renovated hotel that re-opened in 2007 after being abandoned for 20 years. The hotel itself is more than 100 years old. And therefore, like every hotel that old, it has a ghost.
In this case, her name is Effie, a housekeeper who committed suicide decades ago. And according to other NBA players, she likes to play jokes and get in player’s heads before they play the Thunder.
Taj Gibson claimed his bathroom door had slammed shut on its own while staying at the hotel in 2010. And the stories don’t stop there — other teams have complained of weird “creaks and groans” and awakening to find their bathtub mysteriously full of water. Veteran Caron Butler said “everyone in the league knows about her,” referring to Effie.
SO, did Irving have bed bugs or was there something, or someone, else at play?
