Vanessa Hudgens Will Star In DC Comics’ Powerless Sitcom on NBC

Vanessa Hudgens is joining the DC Universe, but perhaps not in the way you may have expected.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hudgens has landed the leading role in Powerless, a new comedy pilot at NBC that is set within the world of DC Comics superheroes. Hudgens will play an insurance claims adjuster named Emily Locke, who enjoys her job and loves helping people, but she isn’t very fond of superheroes and the destruction that they leave behind.

It’s not clear if Powerless will incorporate pre-existing DC characters into the series or which superheroes it will be allowed to depict on screen. Hudgens’ character was apparently created for the show. As conceived by Ben Queen (A to Z), Powerless will be a “workplace comedy” set at the “worst” insurance company in the DC Universe. Christina Kirk is the only other confirmed co-star lined up for Powerless.

Hudgens is best known for appearing in several films, including Sucker Punch, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (pictured above), Spring Breakers, Gimme Shelter, Freaks of Nature, and Machete Kills. While Hudgens has never starred in a TV series before, some of her breakout roles were on television including the High School Movie franchise and her recent starring role in Grease Live on Fox.

Currently, Powerless only has a pilot order at NBC. But it could be in contention for a slot on NBC’s fall 2016 schedule.
