First Look At Dan Harmon’s New Comedy Series on History

Community creator Dan Harmon is about to enroll in Night Class, a new late-night comedy block on History. And he’s bringing a lot of familiar faces with him!

Next week, History will launch Great Minds with Dan Harmon, a new comedy series starring Harmon as himself alongside several historical figures whom he brought to the present with his time machine.

While Great Minds with Dan Harmon was originally set up at IFC, the project moved to History and it will be the flagship show of Night Class. Along with the announcement, History released a preview scene from Great Minds that features Jack Black as Ludwig van Beethoven and Harmon going on a bar run.

Great Minds with Dan Harmon will also feature guest spots with Jason Sudeikis as Thomas Edison and Kristen Schaal as Amelia Earhart, as well as Sarah Silverman, Aubrey Plaza, Nick Kroll, and Dana Carvey as other famous people from the realm of history.

“It turns out [Harmon] is a rabid history buff, and he’s like this pied piper for creatives and got all these people interested in the idea of doing a sketch about a historical figure,” said History’s head of programming, Paul Cabana via Ad Week. “When I see people talk about some of the things they’re watching, it’s on the fringes of the schedule, the things that really push the creative, like a late-night comedy experiment. And I realized that was new territory we could explore.”

History will launch Great Minds with Dan Harmon on Thursday, February 25 at 11:30 pm after Join or Die with Craig Ferguson. Other Night Class originals include Crossroads of History, a comedic sketch show based on real historical incidents and How to Lose the Presidency, a clip show that uses archive footage to examine the way our nation’s most ambitious politicians sabotaged their own chances to become the President.
