Cartoon Network Announces Justice League Action Animated Series

The long-rumored Justice League animated series has finally been revealed! Cartoon Network has announced that Justice League Action is currently in the works with a brand new approach to DC’s iconic superheroes.

Unlike the classic Justice League animated series that was broadcast on Cartoon Network in the mid ‘oos, Justice League Action will consist of 11-minute episodes instead of the standard 22-minute episodes for animation. Apparently, this is a nod towards the shorter attention spans of the viewers and an excuse to cut straight to the action.

“Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman lead the DC Comics Super Heroes against their most infamous foes in adventures packed with relentless thrills, fun and action. No need to wait for the good stuff to start, each eleven-minute episode jumps in with lightning-paced action and heroics. Whether defending the Earth, facing invaders from space, or battling the bizarre forces of magic, the always-rotating team of Justice League heroes, are up to any challenge.”

The exciting part for classic Justice League fans is that Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy are reprising their respective roles as the Joker and Batman. Both actors have been associated with their characters since 1992’s Batman: The Animated Series. Also among the voice cast are James Woods as Lex Luthor and Diedrich Bader as Booster Gold. The rest of the roles are currently unannounced.

The art style for Justice League Action also appears to be deliberately de-aging the heroes to make them appear to be teens. Again, this is probably an attempt to play to the younger audience of Cartoon Network.

Justice League Action doesn’t currently have a release date, but it will presumably premiere before the Justice League movie arrives in 2017.
