While DC is hyping Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as the beginning of a new era for its superheroes, Arrow and The Flash have already doubled down on bringing in superheroes and heroines who have never previously appeared in live-action. Later this season on Arrow, Vixen will be the latest edition to The CW’s DC Universe as she jumps from animation to the primary show on the network!
Last year, actress Megalyn Echikunwoke voiced Vixen on a short animated series for CW Seed that took place within the world of Arrow and The Flash. Both Stephen Amell and Grant Gustin lent their voices to the Vixen animated series, and Echikunwoke is returning the favor by appearing on the 15th episode of Arrow season 4 as Vixen!
The CW has unveiled the first photo of Echikunwoke in costume as Vixen along with a visual representation of her powers.
“We’re not only thrilled to be further expanding our DC television universe by bringing in the live-action incarnation of the CW Seed hit, Vixen, we’re immensely excited that Megalyn will be revisiting her role as Mari McCabe,” said Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim in a previous statement.
At the TCA press tour, the Vixen animated series was renewed for a second season on CW Seed and it was widely hinted that The CW is considering either a Vixen live-action series or making Echikunwoke a cast member of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow…if that show gets a second season.
