While Marvel’s Star Wars ongoing comics have largely remained in the era of the original trilogy, that’s about to change in a big way. Today, Marvel revealed that Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron will be getting his own comic book series later this year.
Via a report in USA Today, Marvel is launching Star Wars: Poe Dameron in April, with comic book veterans Charles Soule and Phil Noto as the creative team. Both Soule and Noto have extensive comic credits and previous Star Wars comics for Marvel. Soule wrote the Lando miniseries and the currently running Obi-Wan and Anakin miniseries, while Noto provided the art for the Chewbacca miniseries.
Although Poe’s screentime in Star Wars: The Force Awakens was fairly limited, he has already attracted a fan following. “People reacting to him so strongly now just feels like we’re hopefully in a great position,” said Soule in the USA Today story.
Don’t expect any spoilers for Star Wars: Episode VIII in the Poe Dameron comic. This series will be set before Star Wars: The Force Awakens and it will explore Poe’s backstory as we learn how he came to be one of the best pilots under the leadership of General Leia.

“I’ve seen people on Twitter and Instagram looking for Poe Dameron in the comics,” added Noto. “Now the pressure’s on us to deliver.”Â
The official solicitation information for Star Wars: Poe Dameron # 1 is expected to be released within the next few days.
