RIP: David Bowie Has Died, Aged 69

Music legend David Bowie has died only two days after his 69th birthday.

A statement posted to Bowie’s Facebook page reads:

“David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.”

Posting to Twitter, Bowie’s son Duncan Jones has shared a photo of him and his dad, along with the words, “Very sorry and sad to say it’s true. I’ll be offline for a while. Love to all.”

Bowie, who had his first hit with Space Oddity in 1969, released his latest and final album, (pronounced Blackstar), last Friday, on his 69th birthday. His music career stretches back to his 1967 self-titled debut album, and his film career includes critically-acclaimed and fan-adored appearances in a wide range of films, from Labyrinth to The Prestige, The Man Who Fell To Earth to The Last Temptation Of Christ.

Bowie is survived by his children Duncan Jones and Alexandria “Lexi” Zahra Jones, as well as his second wife Iman Mohamed Abdulmajid.
