Watch: Ireland Fan Asks James McClean to Get Out of the Way Before Crucial Penalty

The Republic of Ireland secured a place in the Euro 2016 finals yesterday after defeating Bosnia-Herzegovina in the teams’ second leg in Dublin.

Given that Ireland achieved the 2-0 victory in their home stadium, spirits were inevitably high, but even though their supporters had a lot riding on the win they still had time to joke around with their players from the stands.

Twitter user Niall Sterio uploaded a video revealing a particularly hilarious exchange between himself and Ireland’s James McClean, in which he asks the player – who was standing on the sidelines preparing to watch Jon Walters take a crucial penalty for the national squad – if he could move out of the way. McClean obliges, kneeling down on the pitch before turning back to Niall in order to ensure that he’s no longer obscuring the fan’s view.

After uploading the video, Niall posted another tweet reading: “Always liked this fella.”

Jon Walters helped Ireland to victory, scoring both the penalty in the 24th minute and seeing out his brace in the 70th minute. The squad will now join Northern Ireland, England and Wales in the Euro finals in France.
