Australian TV Anchor Waleed Aly’s Rousing Speech Against ISIL Goes Viral

Australian lawyer, writer and TV host Waleed Aly inspired viewers yesterday with his impassioned speech on how to defeat ISIL, calling them weak and urging citizens not to play into their strategy by turning on Australian Muslims. In sentiments that ring true around the world, Aly’s articulate summation of the issues has seen the speech go viral with over 15 millions views and 39 thousand tweets.

Speaking on how to defeat them, Aly quoted their own publications as proof of their intention to sow discord toward Muslims in the west by their actions. “They want you to get angry,” he said. “They want all of us to become hostile, and here is why – ISIL’s strategy is to split the world into two camps. It is that black and white. Again, we know this because they told us.”

The co-host of nightly news wrap up show “The Project”, Aly used his regular Something We Should Talk About feature to bring up the issue. Indirectly calling out right wing Australian political figure Pauline Hanson as well as radical Muslim leaders for preaching hate and undermining social unity.

“So, if you are a member of Parliament or a has-been member of Parliament preaching hate at a time when what we actually need is more love — you are helping ISIL. They have told us that,” he said as images of Hanson in a recent interview flashed on screen. “If you are a Muslim leader telling your community they have no place here or basically them saying the same thing — you are helping ISIL.

“They have told us that. If you are just someone with a Facebook or Twitter account firing off misguided messages of hate, you are helping ISIL — They have told us that.

“I am pretty sure that right now none of us wants to help these b*stards.”

As the death toll from the tragedy in Paris climbs to 132, it’s sobering to hear such words of unity from half way across the world. You can watch the full video here below.
