NBC’s Blindspot was one of the first new TV shows of Fall 2015 to get picked up for a full season, and now it’s the very first series to get renewed for a second season!
According to TVLine, NBC has made it official and ordered Blindspot Season 2, which will premiere in Fall 2016. The series was created by Martin Gero and it centers on Jane Doe (Jaimie Alexander), a woman who was discovered naked in Times Square covered in freshly made tattoos over her entire body. Jane’s memory was also wiped, but the name of FBI Agent Kurt Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) was tattooed on her back, and every tattooed image on her body is a crime waiting to be solved.
After only two months on the air, Blindspot is averaging 8.7 million viewers against veteran TV series Castle and NCIS: LA. With DVR numbers factored in, Blindspot’s average grows to 12.7 million viewers per episode.
“We are over the moon with the success of Blindspot, and want to thank our producers and amazing cast for creating one of the most riveting shows on television,” said NBC’s Jennifer Salke. “We literally can’t wait to see what the second season will bring.”
Stapleton’s former Strike Back co-star Philip Winchester hasn’t been quite as lucky. While Winchester headlined the action series The Player alongside Wesley Snipes, NBC cut the episode order of that series to only nine. That effectively canceled The Player, leaving it little chance of renewal.
But we’re big fans of Strike Back and the Stapleton/Winchester duo. If nothing else, hopefully Winchester can make a guest appearance on Blindspot now!
