Steven Gerrard has suggested that he may retire from professional football in 2016, hanging up his boots for LA Galaxy after moving to the MLS outfit from Liverpool this year.
Speaking to the official LA Galaxy website, Gerrard stated that he would like to go out on a high for the US football club after he made a disappointing contribution to the team this season, scoring in his debut match only to steadily slip out of form.
“It could be my last season as a footballer,” the former England international said. “I certainly don’t want to feel like I’m feeling right now come next year.
He continued: “I’d love to go out on a high. It’s a long season and I only came here for the last four months, but I’ll certainly be better for the experience next year.”

Gerrard also admitted that he had struggled to acclimatise to playing football in a new country, adding: “Playing on [artificial] turf, playing at altitude, playing in humidity, those are the hurdles that I’ve had to face over the last three months that I wasn’t aware of. Every away game has a different challenge.”
Gerrard retired from international football following England’s unsuccessful World Cup 2014 campaign, and moved away from Liverpool to see out the end of his career in the MLS. With him now considering retirement, it seems that he’s not too keen on life in the US league, though his new role as a TV pundit for BT Sport could have perhaps contributed to him hanging up his boots earlier than expected.
